Meet Dr. Russ Hannah: A-State’s New Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration

Exciting news for Arkansas State University as Chancellor Todd Shields announces the appointment of Dr. Russ Hannah as the new vice chancellor for finance and administration and chief financial officer. With a wealth of experience in higher education financial administration and a longstanding commitment to A-State, Dr. Hannah is well-equipped to take on this critical role.

Dr. Hannah first joined Arkansas State in 1991 as the university’s treasurer and has since held various senior financial roles, including chief financial officer since 2021. In addition to his administrative duties, he has also served as an adjunct instructor in higher education finance and law, public financial management, budgeting, and accounting.

With undergraduate degrees in accounting and management, a Master of Business Administration, and a Doctorate of Education in educational leadership, all from Arkansas State, Dr. Hannah brings a strong educational background to his new position. He is also a Certified Public Accountant, a Charted Global Management Accountant, and a Certified Government Financial Manager.

Dr. Hannah’s impressive credentials extend beyond the realm of academia. He is the chair of the Board of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), past president of the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers (SACUBO), and has served on various other boards, including Jonesboro City Water and Light and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.

Recognized as the 2023 CFO of the Year in the Public Sector/Education category by Arkansas Business, Dr. Hannah’s appointment as vice chancellor for finance and administration is a testament to his dedication and expertise in the field. He is set to begin his new role on July 16, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on the financial future of Arkansas State University.
