MACo Announces Core Courses for Academy Fellows at 2024 Summer Conference
Are you a county official looking to enhance your leadership skills and knowledge of local government operations? If so, the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance is the perfect program for you! This volunteer certificate program, founded by MACo and MML, offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip elected and appointed officials with the tools they need to succeed in their roles.
One of the key requirements for County Fellows of the Academy is to complete 8 Core Courses and 6 Elective Credits. If you’re looking to fulfill some of those Core Course requirements, you’re in luck! MACo has announced 2 Core Courses that will be held at the 2024 Summer Conference.
The first Core Course, County Financial Management, will cover topics such as the government budget process, financial reporting, and practical tips for county officials. Led by experienced public administrators, this course will provide valuable insights into fiscal management and maintaining the fiscal integrity of your jurisdiction.
The second Core Course, Open Meetings Act, will provide an overview of Maryland’s Open Meetings Act law and guide public officials on meeting notice requirements and when meetings can be closed. This course will help you navigate the legal requirements surrounding public meetings and ensure compliance with the law.
Both courses are open to all conference registrants, so whether you’re a County Fellow or just looking to expand your knowledge, you’re welcome to participate. Remember, Academy Fellows must complete evaluation forms for each class to earn credit towards their certificate.
